Stimuli Responsive Poly(Vinyl Caprolactam) Gels for Biomedical Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Poly(vinyl caprolactam) (PNVCL) is one of the most important thermoresponsive polymers because it is similar to poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide). PNVCL precipitates from aqueous solutions in a physiological temperature range (32–34 ̋C). The use of PNVCL instead of PNIPAM is considered advantageous because of the assumed lower toxicity of PNVCL. PNVCL copolymer gels are sensitive to external stimuli, such as temperature and pH; which gives them a wide range of biomedical applications and consequently attracts considerable scientific interest. This review focuses on the recent studies on PNVCL-based stimuli responsive three dimensional hydrogels (macro, micro, and nano) for biomedical applications. This review also covers the future outlooks of PNVCL-based gels for biomedical applications, particularly in the drug delivery field.

Thermoresponsive poly(N-vinyl caprolactam)-coated gold nanoparticles: sharp reversible response and easy tunability.
Narrowly distributed poly(N-vinyl caprolactam) obtained by the MADIX/RAFT process was used for the preparation of novel thermoresponsive gold nanoparticles presenting a sharp reversible response to temperature, which can be easily modulated near the physiological temperature by simply changing the polymer molecular weight or concentration.
متن کاملSynthesis of well-defined alkyne terminated poly(N-vinyl caprolactam) with stringent control over the LCST by RAFT.
The reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) of N-vinyl caprolactam (NVCL) using two new xanthates with alkyne functionalities is reported. The kinetic data obtained for polymerization of this non-activated monomer using a protected alkyne-terminated RAFT agent (PAT-X1) revealed a linear increase of the polymer molecular weight with the monomer conversion as well as low dispersit...

متن کاملOn-off Control of Drug Permeation through Antigen-Responsive Gels
Introduction Stimuli-responsive gels that exhibit swelling/shrinking changes in response to environmental changes such as pH and temperature have many future opportunities as suitable materials for mimicking biomolecules and designing smart systems in the biochemical and biomedical fields [1]. For example, self-regulated drug delivery can be achieved by loading a drug within pHand temperature-r...
متن کاملAqueous polymer two-phase systems formed by new thermoseparating polymers.
A set of new polymers that can be used as phase forming components in aqueous two-phase systems is presented. All polymers studied have thermoseparating properties i.e. form one separate polymer enriched phase and one aqueous solution when heated above the critical temperature. This property makes the polymers attractive alternatives to the polymers used in traditional aqueous two-phase systems...
